Parakeet seems sick

by Kearsten
(Austin, TX)

My parakeet is sick...obviously so. She is fluffed and listless. She had feces stuck to the feathers near her vent. I gave her a warm shower and held her to my body heat until she dried. I took her from the other keets and offered her food which she picked at. I gave her antibiotics that I had gotten from the vet when my sun conure broke her wing a month ago. I also fed her a few drops of water with a syringe. It has been 12 hours since I noticed her ill, and I don't know what else to do for her. I understand that when a bird shows signs of illness that it is nearly too late to do anything. I have NO money. My previous vet bills have wiped me out and I don't start my new job until next week. No one I knows has money to lend and I don't have enough credit to get a loan. Is there anything I can do? What could be causing this? We just moved two weeks ago, so I know she is stressed as well. I have put Ornacyn in her water and fed that to her as well.

Too late.

Obviously you didn't see the part about have NO MONEY FOR A VET! My parakeet passed away this morning because I couldn't find the money.

Editor's note: I am sorry for your loss. There is nothing that can be done over the Internet for sick birds. Please find an avian vet that will take payments if you decide to get another bird.

Please Find an Avian Vet for your bird right away. Dr B can not help sick birds over the internet because he can not examine them or prescribe for them.
