Parakeet sneezing and nose discoloration

by Sibel
(Chicago, Il)

Hi my parakeet has been sneezing for a while and its nose has been turning dark blue and purple. At times it looks as if its really sad. I was wondering if this is normal?

Parakeet sneezing and cere color change
by: Tracie

No, it won't really help, because the cere can change do the health issues. The sneezing concerns me, but if you have the bird in a really dry environment, this can cause sneezing. If the sneezing is a "wet" sneeze, then it is ill.

bird sneezing and cere changing colors
by: Tracie

If this is a young budgie parakeet, the cere may be turning due to it maturing and revealing it is a male parakeet.

If this is an older bird, then the cere changing color is a sign of illness and the sneezing could well be a sign of illness too.

If the bird is sneezing often and the "sad" look is the bird sitting fluffed up and not active then you need to Find an Avian Vet to examine your bird right away.
