Parakeet wings are trembling and away from body?

by Erin
(Maryland, USA)

I came home from work today and one of my parakeets had its wings slightly extended from its body and kept them there. They also seemed to be trembling. Behavior-wise everything is normal except he seems to be itching himself all over.

Trembling wings
by: The Vet

Sometimes they do this when they are hoot, when they are nervous, and when they are courting. Trembling can also be a symptom of calcium deficiency. You should be feeding your bird a pellet diet such as Harrison's to prevent nutritional disorders.

You will want to have your bird seen by an avian veterinarian if you have not done so within the last 12 months. A good work up can help determine what is causing this.
