Parrot advice

by Renie Cork
(Nairobi, Kenya)

One of our parrots is sitting on the bottom of her cage, with slight heavy breathing. She seems to be eating, although not as much as usual. She is very old - probably around 40 years. We are keeping her covered and warm. Is there anything else we can do?

Old parrot possibly sick

You should move all the perches to the lowest point in the cage and move the water and food so that the bird can get to them without falling and hurting itself.

There is not anything you can do to help the bird get well, as far as I know. You need to contact an avian vet in your country. You can use the link at the top of our Find an Avian Vet page if you don't find a vet suggested on the page.
