Parrot frightened

My parrot is 10 years old, and just these past 3 weeks he wont let me hold him after 8 years of doing that. I found out yesterday he let me hold him on the floor, then I moved to the couch and after 1/2 hour, he woke up and was frightened, and flew back to his cage. Whats up with that?!

Your parrot is most likely sick and needs to be seen by an Avian Vet in your driving area. Anytime you see a change in what has become normal behavior, the bird is probably sick and in need of medical services with Avian Vet.

So, make an appointment as soon as you can before this gets any worse and have him tested for infections and/or parasites internal and/or external. If he has not been to an Avian vet in more than a year, also have them do some basic bloodwork to see what condition his organs are in. Basic bloodwork consists of a CBC, WBC, liver and kidney function tests.

Your bird is not just frightened, he is sick and needs to go to the doctor.

This message is for anyone reading this. When you see your bird acting strangely, your bird is sick and must be taken to a trained Avian vet. Dog and cat vets are not licensed and trained to treat birds, so they can and do make matters much worse, and your birds will still be sick.
