parrot noises

by Terri
(Florida)

How do I know if my indian ringneck is making sounds of distress/pain/illness rather than natural squawking?

Parrot noises okay or sick?
by: Tracie

You didn't mention how long you have had your bird, but I will answer the best I can.

If you have a new bird, Find an Avian Vet to make sure your bird is healthy. Most birds purchased at pet stores are ill from the unhealthy environment they were raised in by breeders that are in the business for the money instead of the love of birds. If your bird was not taken to an avian vet before they sold it to you, then you purchased from one of those breeders.

Once you KNOW your bird is healthy, you will get used to how the bird sounds throughout the day, day after day. Birds should go for well visits once a year, to be weighed, examined and get their vaccine. If at any time during the year your bird starts making a strange noise, sleeps more, eats less, it's droppings change, then you know your bird is sick.

Thanks for asking! GREAT question. :-)
