parrot only says name now - why?
by: Linda

Parrots are very much afraid when they are moved into a new home. They are afraid of new people, the house itself, any pets or children and all the different sounds a house makes during a day and night.

Your bird will begin talking again once he trusts you and his home. Trust is earned not freely given, so keep busy doing things to win his trust like making sure he is fed and watered as needed, his cage cleaned as needed and that he gets some outside cage time to play with you a lot. In time, he will start talking again, and please do not try and rush him as he will do what he wants when he feels comfortable about doing it and not a minute before that.

If you have not taken him to be examined by an Avian(bird) Vet, then he needs to be checked out for infections or other physical problems. All new birds need to be seen by an Avian Vet ONLY, do not take to dog and cat vet as they do not know how to diagnose and treat birds. We recommend taking new birds into avian vet during the first week they are in our homes because the stress of moving can cause birds to get sick.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
