hi i have a male african grey hes almost 4 years old and hes started picking the feathers around his chest area to the point where he has gone bald. I dont hold him because he is vicious what is the best way to stop him from doing this i spray him with water 3 times a day and i always talk to him through the cage apart from his feather plucking he isnt acting any differently.

Parrot plucking

Dr B can not help because he can not examine your bird. He suggests that you take your bird to an avian vet to be examined.

It could be that something internally is bugging him, like an infection. It is also possible that something changed in his environment that you haven't thought about. Sometimes just adding a new decoration to a room will cause a bird to start plucking.

We have some articles on feather plucking and destruction you might want to read on our Parrot Training page also.

Let us know what you find out.
