parrot tantrums

by Lisa
(derbyshire)

my pious parrot has recently been throwing what can be described as flapping and screaming tantrums. the first was when i had been in all day and left the.room for a shower . then again when my partner uncovered her in the morning and sat down... she's fine after eats properly, drinks, plays she doesn't appear to be hurt, its very strange. she's 5 this yr. he's had a few night terrors when somethin has scared her, one being a ballon in the front room. Im not sure if its the season or just attention??? she's out her cage when we are home she has plenty of toys and food. any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Lisa

hi thanks for commenting. I've had her at the vets on three different occasions while I've has her and she's been fine and she's actually seemed fine on the day I've taken her each time. the vet actually giggled at me and she still does when I've taken her in. like i said after the tantrums shear ok carries on eating, and playing etc. each time she's done this is when i or my partners left the room (not on every occasion) she's never been a needy bird before hence the unsure and strangeness of it. she is a little drawer queen mind and she picks and chooses when she wants a fuss and not.... ill make a note overtime she's does it. my partners been if all day today and she's been fine??? must have bought the runt of the clutch :-) she's had a health check and hats come back ok.... she's does seem a little broody more than this time last yr mind.
thanks anyway.

Parrot throwing tantrums
by: Tracie

It is hard to say what is going on. If this is a new behavior, then illness is a possibility. What is strange is that you seem to be saying it is just when uncovered, startled, scared or lonely. Are you saying for 5 years it has never done this and now it is?

If all of this is new, then please Find an Avian Vet to examine your bird to make sure that your bird is not ill. All the behaviors are normal for birds, just not in the sense that it would just start after 5 years.

We do have some training material on our Parrot Training page that will help you train your bird to replace an unwanted behavior with a preferable behavior, if you determine your bird is not sick.
