Parrotlet Eye skin tag?

by Wintersmagic

I have a 8 month old Parrotlet. She was in a cage and ignored so we got her. we did not see it when we picked her up but she seems to have something in the corner of her eye like a skin tag or growth. I would have assumed if it were seed or something she would have gotten it out.

What is it and what can/should I do for it? Her other eye is fine clear and perfect.

Parrotlet eye ring - possible infection
by: The Avian Vet

This problem needs to be examined by an avian veterinarian. It could be a viral papilloma, infection, injury or other possible causes. D not wait, take her in ASAP.

Parrotlet Eye skin tag?
by: Linda

ALL new birds have to be examined by an Avian Vet in your area during the first few days they are home. This is because moving is stressful and once their immune systems are compromised, they are open to any and all infections. Do this first and ask avian vet what is in her eye.

The other issue here is this bird has been neglected, which means you must take her to an avian vet immediately because there is no doubt in my mind she is sick.

Let us know what avian vet has to say, and we look forward to hearing from you!

Take her to a vet!
by: Jani

To be honest, if you have a new bird she should be checked out by an avian vet now, and six monthly. Birds are so different to mammals, we often can't spot something that's wrong, or understand what to do about what we do see.

For the welfare of the bird, and your own peace of mind, take her to a vet!
