Parrotlet sudden falls

by Linda K
(East Brunswick NJ)

Hello-- 3 times over the past few months my parrotlet has had a flurry of wing noise followed by a fall to the bottom of his cage. He can't seem to get up afterward, just stays down.

Each time I scooped him up and held him for a few minutes. Upon returning to the cage, he sits still for 30 minutes or so, but then returns to eating, drinking and playing. The episodes have been about a month apart.

Is this a seizure of some sort? Is there anything I can do for him?

Thank you so much for any help and info you can offer.

Linda K.

Possible parrotlet seizure
by: Tracie

I am sorry to say it does sound like your bird is having seizures. You need to get your bird to an avian vet ASAP.

Find an Avian Vet

If your bird is not on a healthy pellet diet, like Harrison's then that could be the cause. An all seed diet, or an imbalanced diet, will allow your bird to succumb to disease and die an early death.

Let us know how the vet visit goes.
