Pellets

What kind of pellets do you recommend. I have heard Zupreem and Harrisons are good. Correct? I would like to get my 2 quakes off seed and onto a pellet diet. Thanks in advance... Mary Ann

Pellets

After trying several different kinds of pellets, including the two you mention, my birds will all eat the Roudybush pellets. The Zupreem pellets have coloring added, and I found that although the veterinarians say to stay away from peanuts and too much sunflower seed, the Harrison's listed those two as some of the first ingredients in their pellets.

I don't believe in an all pellet diet. It's not natural for them. I think birds get some good variety and nutrition with a partly seed and nut diet (I do not give my birds peanuts) as well as some pellets. Most important to the health of your birds is to offer them fresh fruits and veggies each day.

Also some of the cooked diets a few days per week are good, like Beak Appetit. You can also occasionally offer your birds some scrambled or hard boiled egg, & whole wheat pasta. My birds like those foods as well. Good luck getting your birds off their all seed diet!

My african grey and sun conure prefer Harrisons but my cockatiel will only eat Totally Organics Pellets. I would try Harrison's first. My 2 year old sun conure was weaned on to harrisons and has never been sick a day in his life.
