Pistchio shell stuck on bottom beak.

I've had my Lilac Crowned Parrot for at least 25 years,sadly he hasn't been handled much. This morning I noticed he has a pistachio shell stuck on his lower beak. He is eating fine, not sure he is drinking his water. He will let me scratch his head, but not get near his beak. Will he take care of this himself or do I have to intevene?? Thanks for your help!
