hey i have a pair of Alex parrots that i got about three weeks ago the female bird has poor feather coverage they do not look smooth like most other Alex parrots i have seen, and i have read about moulting and think it may be this she is very shy and i am unable to get to close to her to really look but she has no bold patches just very mothy , the male however is more attractive and his feathers are beautiful i have been feeding them heaps of fruit and veg trying to get them healthy just wanted to know if i should be worried about her and if it is moulting how long will it take before she looks will again

Bird with poor feather coverage
by: Tracie

It is hard to say, because you didn't mention what the previous diet was, or if you took your birds to an avian vet to make sure they are healthy.

Dr B can not tell without examining your birds and making sure the one with poor feathers doesn't have a disease.

Please Find an Avian Vet to examine your birds. Also please read our Switching Birds To Pellets article and other health articles on our Parrot Training page because nutrition plays a very important role in how the feathers look.
