Poppy our Cherry Head Conure companion

by Callie Gillis

My family has a Cherry Head Conure named Poppy in the family who is 13 years old. We want to get him a companion. Is it possible to introduce a young concure in with him/her and have him accept it? Thank you!

Adding another bird to the flock
by: Tracie

Yes, it is possible. You will need to keep the new bird in a separate cage until they show that they want to be together. They may never get along, so you need to make sure you are getting the bird YOU want to take care of and love on for the next 20+ years.

Please read the article on our Parrot Training page about our experience with getting another conure. They did end up living together, but it took some time and patience. Then, once they hit about 6 months old, they both decided they wanted nothing to do with me. The biting GC conure article explains how my husband helped them to not bite me.
