Possible broken wing on my parakeet

by Dawn Simmons
(Mechanicsville, VA)

My cat knocked over the bird cage and carried the bird into another room...I'm assuming that's how they got there. Pretty Bird now seems to be holding her left wing funny. She's alive and back into her beaten up cage...but how can I tell if she's hurt? Or if her wing is broke, etc? Do I wait a while and see if she starts "talking" again?

Cat got parakeet
by: Tracie

You need to take your bird to an avian vet asap. Birds have hollow bones that break easily and cats have bacteria that causes infections in birds that kills them.

If you do not have an avian vet, you can look for one on our Find an Avian Vet page.
