Pretty Girl - Grass Lorikeet

Grass Lorikeet - handicapped bird

Grass Lorikeet - handicapped bird

We had a Grass Lorikeet called Pretty Girl whom we found she was deformed and unable to fly. We had her for 3 yrs when on the 11 September 2007 our neighbours dogs got into our yard and killed her.

She was not afraid of the dogs as she often played with our dogs. She also had a strong bond with our rabbit Daisy and getting up to no good.

She was very noisy and loved cuddles. She would follow us every where. We could not eat dinner in peace as she had to eat our food too and every morning she would eat breakfast with our daughter.

She was a much loved bird and will be greatly missed by us all. Need to say it is now way too quiet in our home. We will get another bird, but the sad thing is it will never be the same. She was a one of a kind.

We love and miss you Pretty Girl.

Scaly-breasted Lorikeet
by: Lyle, Tamborine Aviaries

What a lovely story! The correct name of the species of bird pictured in the story "Pretty Girl - Grass Lorikeet" is Scaly-breasted Lorikeet, Trichoglossus chlorolepidotus, a common Australian species. My own pet 'scaly' is called Larry and he was also a rescued wild bird in Australia as a chick in 1994. (Now legally kept with permission of QNPWS) He's about fourteen years old now, but still as cheeky and active as ever!

Beautiful Bird
by: Anonymous

What a beautiful bird, and a horrendous ending to her life. It sounds as though she lived a wonderful life with you and was very happy in your home. Best of luck to you.
