Prevent Pecking at sore

My bird has an open sore that won't heal because she pecks it. it has been going on for about 8 months now and we don't have a vet on island to look at her!! We've tried the "sock buddy" and daily applications of antibiotics. Is there any way to put her down in order to clip her beak or some sort of oral medication??? I'm all out of options please help!

Bird pecking at sore

I cannot recommend or dispense any oral medications, but your bird is going to need antibiotics. She will also need a restraint collar to stop the cycle of self mutilation. Clipping her beak is not going to help. The one thing that I can recommend is to use a topical cream called AVIx Soother Plus and apply it 4 times daily. You need to get her to a veterinarian now.

Whatever you do, DO NOT CLIP HER BEAK because birds can bleed out through their beaks if people don't know what they are doing.

Write back to Tracie with exactly where you are because an Avian Vet is the only person who can help you with this.

You may have to take the bird to a vet off the island. You didn't mention what island you live on. Please share where you live, in case Dr B happens to know someone you don't know about.

If your bird has an infection, or something wrong inside it's body that it is pecking to get to, then only an avian vet will be able to help you.
