Quaker parrot bleeding at the butt!!!!!

by Karen
(Cornwall Ontario)

Our male quaker (Levi), was just recently put in the same cage as Dusty (Female). They have bonded really well. In the passed they would constantly hang out with each other, so I thought no a problem to put them togehter. They are Great!!!!!!!

Problem is 3 days later Levi is bleeding from his butt, and acting all funny and going in circles and running up and down the cage and constantly after his butt.

What is wrong ??????
Is he in heat ??????

Please give some advice and let me know what his problem really is.

Thank you for your time

Bleeding is NOT normal
by: Tracie

No bird should EVER bleed from the vent, period. If you are sure this bird is a male, then there is something seriously wrong with the bird.

Please take the bird to an avian vet today.

EMERGENCY
by: Linda

This is an emergency situation. If you continue to wait until later, your bird may very well die. Anytime you see blood on your bird, this is a situation for an Avian vet. Please call Avian vet asap and take him in as an emergency.

Note: Birds do not go into "heat".

Quaker bleeding

First, you need to get the bird to an avian vet ASAP!

Second, the bird may be a female and is egg bound. This is very serious.
