Hi, I have a rainbow lorikeet, its a female and she is around 7 years old. She used to lay two eggs every couple of months and has stopped now. She keeps throwing up her food for a week every couple of weeks. We have taken her to the vet and they stuck a metal rod down her mouth to get samples of food from her stomach to look for any bacterial infection, nothing was located. They also tested her droppings however nothing was found. What else can we do, is there something she can take. She only throws up any liquid foods such as the lorikeet cereal.

Rainbow Lorikeet Vomiting Grass
by: Gemma

Please help.
My Rainbow Lorikeet has been regurgitation a mixture of grass, bits of bark and saliva. He chews the sticks in his cage thats where the bark is coming from. This is the first time he has done this. It Happened today i went to give him some peach for the first time he sort of shook his head and was making spitting noises. What should I do?

Editor's note: First, take your bird to an avian vet ASAP. Second, please post your questions under Parrot Questions so that others will see your question. You posted your question as a response to another person's question.

Rainbow Lorikeet vomiting
by: Tracie

Hello Rubina,

Dr. B suggests that you take your bird to an avian vet if your bird is vomiting. If it is regurgitating it's food on you or a favored toy, then that is a sign of affection.

If your bird shows signs of illness, then please remember that they are usually ill for sometime before they show any signs.

The only sure way to tell the gender of your bird is to do a DNA test.
