Pete died

Oh I am so sorry for your loss. I have tears in my eyes as I write this. Glad you took him to the vet and so sorry there was nothing they could do for him. Intestinal bacteria can come from many different things, i.e. unwashed fruit, dirty water or something he could have gotten into without your knowledge. Peace.

As you know, coffee is a big no-no for birds, even if it's a small sip, so do not allow your bird to drink it at all. It might take a couple of days for the coffee to get out of its system and if your bird is not behaving normally, you need to take it to an avian vet. I wouldn't make any drastic changes to your birds' diet just yet. Make sure he's eating, drinking and pooping properly before you introduce any new foods. Coffee, chocolate, avocado and onions are detrimental to their health. Lettuce offers no nutritional value and could make the bird sick as well. Stick to pellets, seeds, fresh fruit and veggies. Good luck.
