Red Factor puffs up

My male red factor constantly looks like a big puff ball or blow fish. he does not appear ill and hops about the cage as normal. I am breeding him and have only noticed this since he started to mate.

Bird puffed up

Sitting fluffed is an indication the he is not feeling well and probably cold. You should take him in to see an avian veterinarian.

Male birds will often puff up to impress a female, but birds also puff up to keep warm when they are sick.

Dr B will not be able to tell you if your bird is sick, because he can not examine your bird. If your birds have not been to an avian vet for a health check before breeding, it would be a good idea to make sure you have healthy birds before breeding them.
