My Red shouldered Hahn's Mini-Macaw has recently started turning yellow on her back and breast mostly but now some of her tail feathers are getting yellow. Has this happened to anyone elses Mini-Macaw? If so,do you know why?

I've never seen this and do know of a few things that can cause skin and feather problems. Poor diet is one, and this is a diet of mostly seeds. Poor lighting is another cause, and is easily fixed by buying full spectrum lights to hang over the cage for a few hours a day. The light coming through window is no good and will barely keep a green plant alive. It will not keep a blooming plant alive. Birds and other animals kept indoors have to have supplemental lighting that emits the full spectrum of color rays.

I would also strongly suggest a trip to an Avian Vet to have bird checked out for infections and some basic bloodwork done in the form of CBC, Kidney, liver, thyroid/parathyroid panels done to see how everything is working for your bird.

Here is a link about how to change from all seed diets to high quality organic pelleted diets and is written by an AVian Vet. There are some very good organic pellets to be found on this site:

Before any changes in diet, bird has to be seen by an Avian Vet to make sure there is nothing physically wrong where a diet change would hurt him rather than help him at this point.
