redness in skin of society finch

by Beth
(NC)

My society finch has dark red skin mostly everywhere on her but she isn't losing feathers and the feathers are in perfect condition. How do I get it to go away and how do I get her not to bite me?

Red skin on finch

You cannot stop the biting. They are usually biting out of fear of capture and handling.

The skin is very thin and you may just be seeing the underlying muscle. I recommend that you have your bird examined by an avian specialist.

You can't "get it to go away" until your bird has been examined, diagnosed and treated by an Avian Vet only. Use NO over the counter meds including those found in pet stores and use no home remedies as either of these can and will kill your bird. Until you know what is wrong, it cannot be treated.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
