Regugitating (and swallowing it again?)

by Rodney

For reason my parrot will rub his left foot with his beak, make a weird swinging movement with his head, and then he'll throw up some food in his mouth and re-swallow it. I'm not sure if he's doing it to not feel hungry, but he always has a whole container of seed in his cage and I give him fruit sometimes. Any idea why he's doing this?

If you are seeing undigested food coming up then your bird is extremely sick and will need to be examined by an Avian Vet. If all you're seeing is clear liquid, then this is regular regurgitating and is not a problem. If there are undigested particles in the vomit, then your bird is very sick and will die without treatment from an Avian Vet. Take him to an Avian Vet only as dog and cat vets are not licensed to treat birds or other exotic animals and will make things worse.
