regurgitates food and puts it on the cage bars
by: Linda

Hi, if you are seeing any undigested food in this, your bird is very sick. All food is pre-digested in the crop before going into the stomach, so normal regurgitation is a liquid material which is how mother birds feed babies and is called crop milk. Birds will do this sometimes to a person, pet or toy they love, but it is not all the time, and always it is a watery substance with no undigested food. The fact is that there are some serious illnesses that cause birds to be unable to digest food in the crop and pass it on into the stomach.

My only suggestion is to take your bird to an Avian Vet as soon as is possible because the longer you wait, the closer your bird is to passing away from whatever it is. He is doing a lot of this close to his food dish because he keeps trying to eat and may possibly be starving to death.

Thanks for writing and let us know the outcome of his exam with an Avian Vet.

Linda
