rescued cockatiel chronic scraping roof of mouth until bleeds with tallon

I rescued a male cockatiel about a month ago (I had one for 22 yrs befor it passed) is chronically scraping the roof of it's mouth with it's toe tallon & it draws some blood. I hear the dry scraping over & over. He is not happy and is otherwise healthy eating, drinking, plays with toys, sleepng, feathers look good, but is hostile to me and I am worried about the bleeding (not profuse but can cake on feathers on either side of mouth). My previous cockatiel which I raised from youth was very social & responsive so I am at a loss as to what to do about this issue! Help!

All these behaviours that your pet is showing is a clear indication that there is something. Your Parrot needs to be brought to the Veterinarian as soon as possible.

Sick Cockatiel

I agree with Traci. Call an avian vet in your area and get him in immediately. There is no telling what has happened to his mouth, and the longer you wait, the worse it will get. Bleeding from anyplace is a sign of a possible emergency situation, and he needs a qualified avian vet to treat him.

Good luck and let us know how it goes and what vet finds.

Cockatiel needs a vet
by: Tracie

You really have no option but to take the bird to an avian vet. Dr. B can not help your bird over the Internet because he can not examine your bird and run tests.

Please make an appointment with an avian vet ASAP. Let us know how it goes.
