Feathers turned white after death

Feathers turned white after death

Hello. I was wondering if you could explain to me why my hen's feathers turned completely white after a traumatic dead. (by a hawk or coyote)This bird was very dark red in color and when my husband found her all her feathers were white (greyish too). I am a vet tech (small animal) and my doctor's are baffled... Attached is a picture. The other hen had to be euthanized shortly after the attack. Thankyou

UGH... after 2 days the mystery has been solved! This white hen was infact a completely different bird. Maybe a neighbors? My other red hen, that I thought was this one, showed up at the coop the next day. Maybe it is their young rooster that came over and there was a fight? Two dead birds with deep wounds and my other hen injured but should do fine.
