Ringed Parakeet turning yellow!
by: Linda

There are many reasons why birds start to lose color in their feathers. It can be related to disease or infection of some kind and most of the time, it's directly related to diet and how much full spectrum light they receive each day.

Your bird needs to be eating an organic, high quality pelleted diet like Harrison's or others found on this site or in your country. The reason for organic is there are no chemicals in the food not even preservatives which make it a safe, vitamin and mineral enriched diet. It can take some time to change a bird over from a diet of seeds or junk pellets to a wholesome diet and here is an article about how to go about it:

Switching Birds To Pellets article

To rule out disease or infection, before starting a new diet, make sure bird has been examined by an Avian Vet in your area. We recommend yearly exams to make sure birds are in good health as they tend to hide their illnesses.

Thanks for writing, and write again if you need more information and to let us know how all is going,
Linda
