Rosella with swollen foot
by Geraldine kane
I am living in Ireland – unfortunately we don’t have vets who specialise in birds near by.
I have an Australian Rosella – who flew into my garden about 15 years ago.
After unsuccessfully trying to find its owner we decided to keep him
He only has (and as far as we know always had) one leg but has managed fine on it through out his life.
Recently however it doesn’t stand up on its perch for long and just sits at the bottom.
He appears fine every other way – his feathers colours are strong and vibrant and he calls out his little tunes.
He has always been aggressive so we have never been able to take him out from his cage.
The only time we do is to clip his nails which I do and is a big ordeal where thick gloves have to be worn.
I took him out yesterday and his foot looks a little swollen and red – I am not sure if this is because he is spending so much time on it now on the bottom of his cage or is it just that he is getting old.
Any suggestions would be extremely grateful
