Screaming African Grey

by Hannah Williams

Every morning we take our 11 month old African grey out, and feed her and have a bit of one on one, then she goes and sits on top of one of the doors, then she is very happy and makes lots of happy sounds and tries to chat, then it s like she gets over excited and flaps her wings and screams jumping around.

It has happened for the last few mornings, I take her off and put her on her cage and she eats a bit and things go back to normal. Is this normal? It is quite scary to see her like this. Any comments welcome. Thank you.

Thank you very much for your reply. I did think it was that! As she seems a very happy bird!

But yes there are some sounds and things she does that is not too good! so we will just not give her the attention. Thanks again. : )

Sounds as though your bird enjoys it's time with you, and wants more of it. The screaming and wing flapping is him trying to get your attention.

If this is behavior you dont want, ignore it. He will stop. When he does this, just walk out of the room, dont talk to him, look at him, just walk out of the room. When he stops, walk back in, and talk to him.

Be consistant. Reward him with attention for the behavior you want, and ignore the bad. He will catch on.

Never yell at your bird, bc any attention is better then no attention, and you will be re-enforcing the bad behavior.
