Try to make it feel safe

It is not easy to befriend with a parrot. You must try to make it feel safe with you. It will take time, but slowly your parrot will be easy with you.

First of all, your baby has probably been weaned too early. Baby Cockatoos should still be handfed for up to 6 months or longer. In the wild mother's feed their babies up to a year while teaching them to forage for food. If your bird is not eating enough, then this is the problem.

I suggest you take your bird to be examined by an Avian Vet only to see if there is a physical problem that is causing pain. There are some training materials on this site, and before any training, bird has to be examined by an Avian Vet because a sick bird can die from the stress.

Hi,
The little guy is puffing up cause he feels threatened.

Just talk to him in a calm voice and move slowly around the cage. I have 6 cockatoos and each one has its own personality. When I got my 10 month old, she would have night frights and I would hold her and read to her a children's book in a calm voice.

Try playing calming music and sit by its cage and talk to it. Offer a treat or read to it.

The poor little thing is just scared and everything around it is new in a big scarey world.

Good luck.
