I have a one year old sun conure who does the same thing. She (not DNA tested, I just think she's a girl) has a HUGE attitude and is spoiled rotten (I admit it - she's sitting here right now nodding her head as I type this). She only ever does it when she's in her cage. She's very healthy and happy and, in my opinion, well taken care of.
I am almost positive she does this when she wants someone to come and take her out. She'll sit there and scream and when that doesn't work, she'll scream and bite her leg. It looks like she's having a fight with herself. I'll glance at her to make sure she isn't hurting herself - she never does - and then continue to ignore her. Eventually she gives up and either snuggles with her Happy Hut (aka her boyfriend), or she'll make "good girl" noises, at which point I'll take her out.

agitated, upset, lonely

This generally happens when they are not getting their way. Frustration is another way of looking at it.

My macaw does this sometimes she will hurt herself just to get her way. then scream for a short.

Parrot biting and screaming help
by: Tracie

I don't know that anyone can tell you why he is doing this. Have you read our article on trying to figure out why your parrot is biting you and screaming? You can find it on our Parrot Training page.
