Screaming Moluccan

by Carla
(Melbourne, FL)

I know and accept the AM and PM screaming. I understand, for example, that when he hears the garage door open it means some one has come home and he screams then.

I need help when my male moluccan (19yrs) screams and won't stop. My family is wanting to give him away so I'm desperate. All suggestions welcome!

It sounds like your moluccan is looking for attention and if you show it attention when it is screaming, this will teach it to scream for attention.

As hard as it can be, you have to ignore the bird when it is screaming at you. You walk away and when the bird realizes you are not going to allow this behaviour, it will stop.

Does it get plenty of time out of it's cage? Does it have lots of toys?

It could be bored also if it doesn't have enough to do.

This is the problem with most cockatoos. They can be very needy on their owners and can be like a sponge. I'm not trying to be mean, but people should do their research before buying a cockatoo, or any parrot for that matter.

People can't handle their screaming and being so needy on us, the mess, etc and they are passed on to another home. This breaks my heart to see so many birds out there being abused, neglected, passed on and in sanctuaries.

I hope things work out for your bird so you don't have to rehome him again.
