Screeching Lorikeets
by: Eva

Hi. I have four rainbows and one musk lorikeets. They are all darlings, but very loud. I think loud and belligerent are a lorikeets natural state of being :-)
A vet check couldnt hurt, but if it were one of mine I would assume that it needed more attention. Lorikeets are definitely little divas and NEED to be the centre of your existence. Good luck!

There are many reasons for this type of behavior, and since we have almost no information, it will be impossible to address the question in any comprehensive way.

Your bird could be sick in which case it needs to be examined by an Avian Vet. It could be hungry from being fed the wrong foods. It could be going insane in too small a cage. It could be needing more of your time and attention and on and on.

Take your bird to be examined for physical problems by a licensed and trained Avian Vet first. Make sure you are feeding a high quality diet in which organic pellets, like Harrison's, figure prominently. Cages should be large enough so bird can fully spread wings and flap without hitting anything in cage including sides. Perches have to be natural wood branch perches as these give bird's feet and legs rest. The dowels that come with cage need to be taken out as part of cage setup and replaced with natural wood branch perches so bird's feet don't hurt from gripping the same diameter all the time.

The Avian Vet may find an infection that is being left untreated, so do not delay getting your bird in for an exam as a healthy bird does not normally sit around screaming all the time. Something is wrong, and it's up to you to find out what and why.

Let us know what the Avian Vet has to say, and we can all go from there.

Linda
