Seed in eyelid

by Mary H.
(Springfield, Mass, USA)

I got a young male parakeet recently and after a few days i noticed a lump that looked like a seed stuck in his eyelid. After a couple more days i found two more, not quite so large, lumps in his other eyelid. Im concerned for my birds health, what should i do?

Bird with lumps in eyelids

This could be serious. You need to see an avian veterinarian immediately.

Seed in eyelid

These are NOT seeds, they are some kind of growths, and you must take your bird to an Avian Vet immediately to have them examine bird and find out what these lumps are. They could be tumors, cancer, or some kind of infected sores. Take bird ONLY to an avian vet because dog and cat vets are not licensed or trained to diagnose and treat birds and sometimes kill them with either wrong diagnosis and/or wrong dosage of meds.

Let us know what Avian Vet finds and thanks for writing.
