strange rubbing niose from budgies beak by: Anonymous
my budgie keeps making a funny scratching niose with his beak. Freddy seems very happy but when he sits on my shoulderI can hear a distinct grinding sound .To me it sounds like his beak is overgrown on the top part so it seems like what he is doing is grinding off the overgrown part with the small part of the lower beak.Could I be correct and if I am will nature just do it or should I have someone look at his beak.If anyone has the same problem or some words of advice I,m all ears. thankyou.

seed stuck in beak by: Tracie
If it is actually a seed, then when it drinks or bathes it should come out. It may be a growth that needs to be seen by an avian vet, as Linda mentioned.
You can gently catch and hold bird and see if it is a seed or a sore or something like that. You may want to have someone else help because it might be easier to see what's there. When holding birds as small as finches, this can be done with one hand and just be very careful not to squeeze hard or you will kill the bird. Basically with the small softbill birds, you're simply keeping the wings still so bird is not injured.
If you find this is not a seed but a sore, then take bird to an Avian Vet so they can see what it is and what to do about it.
