I just purchased what was suppose to be a baby senegal. His eyes are at the grey stage, so approximately how old is my new senegal? I have read there eyes are grey at the juvenile age but was wondering how old a senegal is at the juvenile age? Thanks!!!

The people you bought bird from probably told you correctly. Your new bird needs to see an Avian Vet for a checkup right away, so talk with them about his probable age. The reason he needs to see an Avian Vet now is when birds are being moved around, they are likely to contract bacterial and/or viral infections which will not show up until later when the bird is really sick. More sick costs more money! Have the vet check him out for infections, parasites inside and outside and check his heart and such to make sure your bird is healthy from the beginning. Sick or birds getting sick will not be having much fun, and the stress of having to get used to yet one more strange place filled with strangers can be too much for them to handle.

Congratulations on your new Senegal, and make sure you start him out on an organic, high quality pelleted diet to get and maintain good health. Tracie carries several kinds out here, and any one of them would be a wonderful diet for him. Make sure you get the certified organic ones to avoid dyes and preservatives in the cheaper ones. You get entirely what you pay for when buying bird food, so get the best, and you'll cut down on vet bills now and in the future.
