I have a standing perch that is separate from the cage, I'd like to be able to set my nanday on it but he seems totally scared of it and won't go near it. How do I get him to go on it?
This is called "training", and it can take a lot of time working with your bird. What that means is he will need to be put onto the perch, and if he flies off, then he will need to be put on it again. Make sure perch is not too large or small diameter for his feet. Safe natural wood branch perches are the best as birds like the more natural changes in diameters, and it keeps their feet and legs healthy.
Maybe there is something wrong with perch. As I said, if it is too large or too small, he will not want to sit on it. If it is just made from a wooden dowel, then his feet and legs get cramps, and so your bird needs safe wood natural branch perches inside and outside of his cage.
