sexing love bird

I'm getting a love bird soon and was wondering if the pet shop is able to recognise the sex of the love bird. i heard that male love birds are not as aggressive as female love-bird. I don't wish to get a female love-bird mistaken as a male love-bird and suffer it's aggressiveness. Please help.. Thank you.

sexing a lovebird

The petshops where I buy my birds from will sex your bird for about $35. You can pay to have it sexed before you buy. the results take a week to come in.

When they sex the bird, they will clip it's nail till it bleeds a little... and put the blood on a card... it's then sent away for analysis.

It's quick, easy, and you don't have to go to a vet, unless the petshop doesn't do it. I personally go to a shop that sells only birds, and bird accessories.

Standard petshop may not do it. Ask the clerk when you're there if they do it.

Females aren't always aggressive. 2/3 of my birds are female. Very loving, very happy. It's about the time you invest in spending with the bird that will determine thier tameness.

Determining the gender of a lovebird
by: Tracie

You will have to have a DNA test done to determine the gender.
