Shivering conure

My Green Cheek Conure seems to shiver sometimes. I'm wondering how you can tell if he's just cold or if he's nervous? Or is something wrong with him? Thanks! - Tiffany.

Birds can be nervous by nature.
However I would recommend a vet first. Get him seen soonas possible by an avian vet.

If the bird is healthy, then something in the birds cage or near the birds cage is scaring him. Some birds like and dislike certain colors or smells. My friend has a bird who is scared of the color orange. And one perfume she wears, he doesnt like it, and will bite her if she's wearing it. It took an avian vet to point this out to her.

An Avian vet specializes in just birds. When you take your bird in, he should ask you a series of questions about your bird. He will eventually be able to figure out, or to help you figure out whats scaring him, or if he is in fact just cold.

I keep my house temp at 75*-80*. My birds seem perfectly fine with this temp. They're feet are never cold.

Only way to really get proper answers is take him to a vet. :D

Good luck.

Bird shivering at times
by: Tracie

It is hard to tell over the Internet, sorry. If your bird just once in a while shakes all over and wiggles it's tail, then that is not a problem. If the bird just sits there and shivers, then I would think it is a sign of illness.

Please Find an Avian Vet to examine your bird to make sure it is not hiding an illness.
