shredding papers and piling them in a corner

There's nothing wrong with shredding papers, but make sure the papers are NOT newsprint. You can go to your local newspaper office and get partially used rolls of the clean paper for next to nothing. We do that, and never have to use the nasty newsprint pages.

The other thing is they may be trying to make nests, and this is still okay unless they start laying. Eggs laid in bottom of cage need to be thrown away quickly as birds sometimes crack them open and the contents will be poison for them an hour or so after laying as the eggs start to rot. This poisoning is not treatable, and birds will die a very painful death from albumin poisoning.

I discourage breeding the parrots because so many people are doing it and then there's the commercial breeders and the bird mill breeders. What has happened is lots (most) parrots out there are in trouble and in less than desirable home situations where neglect and abuse are taking place. They suffer in lonliness and die in agony. Think twice and three times about breeding. Think more about rescuing a couple of birds, and there are many to choose from. I think there should be laws in place about breeding the birds and only licensed people should be doing it and only a very few of them. The parrot overpopulation problem is causing much more suffering than you probably realize, and so that's one issue I'm here for.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
