Sick Bird/ Treatment Ideas?

by Katheryn
(Howell, Michigan)

My bird is puffed up and appears to be breathing heavily. I have put a heat pad over her cage and changed her water and food. I didn't know what this may be or if there is anything else you suggest doing

Sick Bird/ Treatment Ideas?
by: Linda

Yes, as Tracie suggested, you need to get your bird into see an Avian Vet immediately. What you will be dealing with, if not already dealing with, is pneumonia, and this is a nasty infection that takes birds down for a long time.

Anytime you notice all these symptoms, there is nothing to do but take your bird to see an Avian Vet, not a dog or cat vet, an Avian Vet as they are the only ones licensed to treat birds.

Your bird is in very bad shape and it will only get worse, so move on this immediately.

Thanks for writing and let us know what Avian Vet had to say,
Linda

Take your sick bird to an avian vet
by: Tracie

You need to take your bird to an avian vet ASAP. Dr B can not help your bird without examining the bird in person. An avian vet will be able to examine the bird and run tests so that the bird will get the exact treatment it needs.
