When I pulled my parrotlet from the nest box to hand feed it it' crop was empty and was dehydrated. Over the last weeks her symptoms include, malformed feet, can't fly , clogged nostril which has a hard swallen bump obove it, watery swollen eye. She also is slightly small and frail. Took her to the vet twice to no avail. Does anyone have an answer?????

There's the link to a vet in your area who see's birds. You'll find a phone number address there.
Make sure when you call for an apt, you tell them you NEED the AVAIN specialist. Not all vets at a clinic will specialize in avian. So dont just ask to see the first available one.

Hopefully when you say vet, you mean a licensed, trained Avian Vet because they are the ONLY ones that can diagnose and treat birds.

Your bird is dying, and the reasons can be multitude. One problem could be sick parents who produce sick babies. Both parents have to be examined by avian vet before breeding. Birds have to be eating an organic pelleted high quality diet at least a year before breeding to get them into breeding condition.

It sounds to me like your parent birds may be related in which case you will not want to breed them again. Birth defects and all kinds of internal problems come from breeding birds related by blood and is called inbreeding. Inbreeding produces horrible babies beset with all kinds of problems.

So, take this bird to an Avian Vet and have them also examine both parent birds to see what problem is. Diet, exercise and unrelated birds is the only way to breed birds. This baby is probably not going to make it, so you may wish to have avian vet put it to sleep. You also have to know how to hand feed birds using baby parrot handfeeding formula fed with a syringe. Baby birds get gas in their crops from using spoons, and food has to be warm enough. The list is endless, so I say you were not and are not ready to bring anymore innocent lives into the world until you've got everything right and know all you need to know.
