Diet for bird laying eggs
by: The Avian Vet

She needs to be eating 80% pellets ( Harrison's is the best) and 20% treats. This will guarantee her health even when she is laying eggs. I feel that the weakness is nutrition and health related, not emotional. You need to take your bird in to see an avian veterinarian immediately.

Sick Nanday Conure after egg laying
by: Linda

The best thing you can do for her is to have an Avian Vet examine her and check for infections both viral and bacterial. Routine blood work needs to be done as well to make sure organs are functioning properly. Egg laying takes a lot of energy plus vitamins and minerals out of bird's body, so if she is also sick, this will be the end of her in a bit.

Make sure she is seen by an Avian Vet, and Florida has many Avian Vets, so you should not have any problems with finding one. Have her checked out once a year BEFORE egg laying time.

Her feeling sick has nothing whatsoever to do with whether the eggs are fertile or not. It has to do with she is sick and possibly has been sick with a low level infection since the first day you took her home. All new birds need to be examined within a few days and checked for infections or other physical problems. We recommend yearly exams to make sure all is well because birds hide their illnesses until they are so sick they are near death, so please take her to Avian Vet right away and feed her a high quality diet of organic pellets as well.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
