sick parakeet

by michael

hello, I have a 5 years old parakeet who lives with a mate (mate is healthy). for last month he became quite sick. he looks tired, always sits like a "baloon" and has stopped flying. he eats and drinks well.

his beak is too long and not smooth.I've even cut it a little bit once (as my vet instructed) so he could eat more easily.

few months ago he had problem with some sort of fungus on his beak, but it was sorted out.

we tried taking him to a vet again, but he said he cant help and gave us cephalexin which didnt really help.

what can we do?

Sick parakeet not getting well
by: Tracie

I am sorry to read about your sick bird. Dr B can not help, because he can not examine your bird. He can't tell why the medication is not working or suggest another treatment.

You need to find another avian vet, for a second opinion, if you do not trust what your vet is doing.

A long beak suggests that your bird may be on an all seed diet and possibly has fatty liver disease. Your birds need to be on a healthy pellet diet, like Harrison's, to prevent this disease and other health problems.
