my eclectus has laid 2 eggs but doesn't sit on them all the time, she comes out of her boxes for periods of about 10 to 15 minutes about 6 times a day. Is this normal
You left out some important information. Are you a new breeder, or does your bird live alone and the eggs are not fertile and you are just curious about the bird not sitting on the eggs all the time?
If your bird does not have a mate to feed her, then she would have to leave the nest to eat and most birds leave to poop anyway as far as I know. (I am not a breeder) Maybe Linda will have some insight on this.
If your bird doesn't have a mate, then eventually she should lose interest and abandon the eggs. At that point please remove the box so she doesn't lay any more eggs.
If you are a new breeder, and that is why you don't know the answer to your question, then please find an experienced breeder to mentor you and make sure you have a GREAT avian vet for your birds so that you can have the birds and babies checked before selling them.
