Something is wrong with my mother in laws B & G

Hi My mother in laws B&G is five years old. she just obtained her from a previous owner about 5-6 weeks ago. She is in her 80's, so the family helps to care for the bird, whom is an absoulte sweetheart.

My sister in law phoned me tonight stating that the the bird had dried blood under neath the vent area and some swelling. I have checked several of my parrot medical books and cannot find anything on this subject.

I was told by family that someone experienced in birds checked underneath the vent area to see if she might be egg bound, and they said no eggs were felt?????? hmmmm, in a bird of this age, I would think she would lay a clutch yet, but could be wrong. Need some help with this please. Never raised the macaw species, only the smaller species of birds.

B & G bleeding from the vent
by: Tracie

You must get the bird to an avian vet ASAP. Bleeding is a serious thing. If you do not know of an avian vet, then you can look for one on our Find an Avian Vet page.

If you don't see one listed, there are links at the top of the page you can search an avian vet also.

Thanks for writing, but Dr B can not help birds with things like this, because he would need to examine the bird and also he can not treat the bird legally without seeing the bird.
