Somethings wrong with my parakeets leg! Help!

Parakeet foot

I've searched other forums that talk about bumblefoot and arthritis but I cant be completely sure. Basically whats happening is that my parakeet isn't using one of it feet, it keeps itself upright on the wooden perch with one foot and kind of leans the other foot in front of the perch to support some weight but not much, he has it tightened into like a birds version of a fist, and is leaning on it in a way that makes me worried he's breaking it, it also seems slightly red and swollen compared to the other not that's it bleeding. Also its not due to the nails we've checked them. Thank you anything you can suggest would help.

Hurt bird

My strongest suggestion Would be to find the closest avian vet to look at your bird. The trip could save your birds life. It could be anything at this point so a diagnosis needs to be made so your bird can be properly treated. One thing to keep in mind too.. From the photo it appears that your bird is standing on a wooden dowel type perch.. Like the kind that comes with a cage.. These are a big no no and should be thrown out. Replace these with natural wood branches with varying textures and widths. It keeps feet active with healthy blood flow. The wooden dowels do nothing but hurt your birds feet and cause arthritis. Also try rope boings or pedi-perches to keep perching very comfortable. If you are going to use branches from outdoors make sure they are non-toxic first. Otherwise many pet stores or online offer perches made of manzanita wood, grape vine, etc. so dont delay, get your bird to an avian vet.. It is clear he is in pain.. If you were dragging your leg around, youd go to the doctor,..wouldnt you?

This sounds like a broken foot or leg, and you have to take your bird to an Avian Vet only right away. Breaks have to be repaired immediately or they have to be rebroken so bones can be set correctly. Have avian vet xray leg and foot to see if there is a break which it sounds like there is.

In future, please do not waste time on the internet when your bird is sick or injured. Your bird is most likely in a lot of pain, and the time you've wasted has made it worse not better. Anytime you see a possible injury or the signs of illness, please get your bird to an avian vet right away. Do not delay any further getting your bird the medical services he requires and that are required by law.

parakeets leg

Your parakeet might have gotten it's leg caught and hurt it, sprained it, broken it or cracked it. Or it could have something wrong that is causing this health wise.

I would take it immediately to an avian vet to be examined.
