Ruby and Molly Hanging Out (Green Wing and Blue & Gold Macaws)

We have only had our GW for 2 weeks she is now 4 months old. We noticed she has a hump on her back that is more towards the right side, which we did not notice at first, we did take her to the vet and they said it might be curvature of the spine or scolliosis, we are concerned what physical issues will she have as she gets older also what if anything can be done for her? Please help.

Green Wing Macaw with bump on spine
by: The Vet

Without an exam I cannot tell you what this bump is. If it is a spinal curvature, your bird will most likely be able to compensate and be OK as an adult. However there may be limitations such as not being able to fly. Some types of spinal curvatures can lead chronic neurological deficits and pain. I recommend seeing an avian specialist and have some digital x-rays done to determine the extent of the deformity.

Please talk with your vet as to what is suggested be done about this. This problem with humans can have devastating effects later in life if left untreated. Just talk with vet as to what they think should be done. In humans surgery is required to fix it, and though I don't like to recomend it with birds, this is where your vet is your best resource.
